In a concerted effort to optimize operations at Ghana’s premier seaport, the Director of Port for Tema, Tebon Zumah Esq., recently hosted the Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Aaron Kanor, and his delegation on a crucial working visit.

The high-level engagement was strategically designed to deepen the existing ties between port management and customs officials, with a shared focus on maximizing operational efficiency at the country’s most vital maritime gateway.

Streamlining Cargo Clearance and Trade Facilitation At the core of the discussions was the mutual goal of enhancing trade facilitation. Both leaders recognized that in a highly competitive global shipping industry, the speed and reliability of cargo clearance processes are paramount. The meeting explored practical ways to eliminate bottlenecks, reduce turnaround times for vessels, and ensure that goods move through the port with minimal friction.

By reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, the GRA and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority aim to sustain and elevate the Port of Tema’s competitive edge, making it a more attractive transit and destination hub for international shipping lines.

Addressing Revenue, Security, and Port Congestion The deliberations went beyond mere operational speed, diving into the critical mechanics of port management. The delegation discussed robust strategies to bolster revenue mobilization, ensuring that the state optimizes its tax collections without stifling the flow of trade.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the pressing need to fortify security protocols within the harbor and implement targeted measures to streamline the myriad of activities occurring within the busy port enclave, ultimately aiming to reduce congestion and improve the overall working environment.

A Pledge for Seamless Synergy Speaking on the margins of the visit, Port Director Tebon Zumah Esq. reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the port authorities to foster a collaborative environment. He emphasized that the success of Tema Port relies heavily on a unified approach.

He pledged that port management will continue to work hand-in-hand with Customs and all other key stakeholders within the maritime value chain. This synergy, he noted, is the fundamental bedrock required to guarantee seamless port operations and to vigorously support Ghana’s broader international trade and economic agenda.
