President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the introduction of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) initiative has helped sanitise Ghana’s gold sector, significantly boosting the country’s export revenue.

Speaking at the Global Mining Summit on Monday, June 2, he stated that the policy, which was introduced under his administration, has already begun yielding positive results.

According to President Mahama, the collaboration between the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and GoldBod has already generated $2.7 billion in gold export earnings for the country within the first four months of the year.

He emphasised that this figure is expected to rise exponentially as the year progresses, citing the transparency and structure the initiative has introduced into the sector.

“The GoldBod, a key plank in my administration strategy to reform the gold mining sector and ensure maximum benefit for Ghanaians for our gold resources, has taken off. In its short existence, it has sanitised the gold sector, ensuring maximum returns from our gold export.

“…Ghana’s gold export through the PMMC and Goldbod earned the country 2.7 billion dollars between January and April, and this figure is expected to increase exponentially throughout the year,” he said.
