In a historic gathering that brought together political leaders, community members, and fervent party supporters, the United Ga-Dangme Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) officially inaugurated its Anyaa Sowutuom chapter.
The primary objective of this initiative is to fortify the connection between the NDC and the Ga-Dangme community, strategically mobilising support in anticipation of the December 7 general elections.
Notable attendees included community leaders, traditional elders, and Ga-Dangme representatives, underscoring the significance of unity and collaboration between the political party and the local community.
The executives are Michael Acquah as Coordinator, Samuel Odarquaye Lamptey as Deputy Coordinator, Percy Addo as the Operations and Christiana Naa Awula Ansah as the Financial Secretary.
Speaking at the launch in Awoshie on Saturday, Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo and Former Minister of Sports, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, emphasized the caucus’s mission to mobilize Ga-Dangme voters to support all NDC parliamentary candidates and the presidential candidate, H.E John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7, 2024, national elections.
Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije cautioned against complacency among party members as the elections draw near.
Reflecting on the historical ties between the NDC and the Ga-Dangme people, he remarked, “The umbilical cord of the NDC is buried in the Ga-Dangme soil, with founding figures such as Nathan Quao, D. F. Annan, Okaija Adamafio, E. T. Mensah, Quaynor Mettle, Anaa Ennin, among others being Ga-Dangme individuals.”
Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije who served as Director of Operations in the erstwhile late President John Evans Atta-Mills administration further urged party members to remain focused on personalised campaigning and specifically target first-time voters and Ga-Dangmes emphasising the importance of individual connections over the mass turnout at rallies.
The Parliamentary Candidate for Anyaa Sowutuom, Hon. Emmanuel Adotey Allotey encouraged the executives and members to work in unity towards the December 7 victory.
He urged the supporters to bury their differences, since without unity it would be difficult for the party to win.
