The Accra Giants have thumped Ashanti Warriors 4-1 following 90 minutes of great talent display on the pitch, to emerge champions of the Binatone Challenge Cup for 2018.

The four-team tournament, which was held at the Accra Sports Stadium two Saturdays ago, served as a key test for the International Federation of Skate Soccer (IFSS) ahead of their maiden Africa Cup of Nations in March.

The Giants, who made it to the final after thrashing Western Tigers 5-1, proved too strong for the Warriors.

The Giants, led by the skipper of the national team, Gariba Sani, entertained the packed crowd with some breathtaking performances to take home the giant trophy and undisclosed cash prize.

In the playoff match, Western Tigers pipped Zongo Lions 1-0 to occupy the third position.

The tournament was organized by IFSS, an NGO committed to the development of physically disabled persons (particularly polio victims), in collaboration with its title sponsor Binatone to afford coaches of the national skate soccer team an opportunity to assess players for possible call-ups ahead of the March 2018 Africa Skate Soccer Championship.

After the competition, the CEO of IFSS, Albert Frimpong expressed optimism that the competition will help the coaches identify the best players to represent Ghana ahead of the Africa Skate Soccer Championship.

Frimpong expressed appreciation to Poly Tank Ghana, Diamond Cement, Zenith Bank Auto Plaza Limited, Melcom Ghana Ltd, Afrigobal Group, Vitabiotics, Jumia, B5 Plus, Afriglobal Group and Decathlon for supporting the event.

Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, urged government to take up Skate Soccer as one of the state-sponsored sporting activities, pointing out that it can become a channel for creating jobs for the disabled.

The Binatone Challenge Cup attracted lots of high profile personalities from the sport industry, including the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Birender Singh Yadav; GOC President Mr. Nunoo Mensah; and National Sports Authority Board Chairman, Hon. Kojo Agyemah Baah.

Binatone used the occasion to hold a raffle, giving away prizes such as refrigerator, generator, sandwich maker, iron, blender, and rechargeable lamp.
