The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has reinforced its dedication to elevating corporate governance standards and fortifying Ghana’s regulatory landscape, taking its message to the inaugural Company Secretaries’ Summit & Awards 2026 in Accra.
The landmark event convened a diverse coalition of governance professionals, including company secretaries, board advisors, regulatory officials, public sector leaders, and industry captains, to explore the shifting paradigms of corporate governance in Ghana.
In her keynote address, Registrar of Companies Maame Samma Peprah underscored that robust corporate governance is the essential bedrock for sustainable business growth, fostering investor trust and driving national economic advancement.
As Ghana continues to position itself as a prime investment destination, Peprah stressed that local enterprises must go beyond the status quo. She emphasized that embracing transparency, strict accountability, and proactive compliance is critical for remaining competitive in a dynamic global economy.
The Registrar highlighted the evolving nature of the governance profession, describing company secretaries as the vital bridge between regulators, executive management, and boards of directors. She noted that their responsibilities have outgrown traditional statutory compliance.
Today’s governance professionals are expected to be strategic advisors, guiding board decision-making, mitigating governance risks, championing ethical leadership, and ensuring organizations swiftly adapt to changing legal frameworks.
To meet these modern demands, Peprah urged practitioners to prioritize continuous professional development. She also encouraged the adoption of technological innovation and artificial intelligence as tools to build resilient, accountable, and future-ready organizations.
Echoing this forward-looking theme, the summit’s agenda featured expert presentations on the integration of Artificial Intelligence in governance, leadership and boardroom dynamics, and governance in the public interest. Practical breakout sessions were also held to equip attendees with the tools needed to navigate today’s complex corporate environments.
Moving forward, the ORC reaffirmed its pledge to maintain strategic partnerships with private sector stakeholders, professional associations, and governance institutions. Through these collaborative efforts, the agency aims to drive regulatory compliance and cultivate an enabling environment where sustainable businesses—and Ghana’s broader economy—can thrive.
