In a consistent drive by Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) to encourage its employees to aspire to high levels of conduct in relation to alcohol consumption, the brewery has a mandatory alcohol training dubbed Alcohol Bahaviour & Communication (AB&C) training which every employee undergoes.

The training which exposes all employees to ABL’s alcohol policies and key position papers on alcohol related issues was extended to employees of Graphic Communication Group Limited (GCGL) and UT Holdings in February 2016.

Mrs. Antwiwaa Asante, the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Manager of ABL who trained employees of both GCGL and UT Holdings at separate events indicated that “Beer adds to the enjoyment of life for the overwhelming majority of our consumers, but as a sustainable business, we care about the effects of irresponsible alcohol consumption which is why we take pride in providing you, our stakeholders with balanced and accurate information on alcohol.”

She noted that as part of the ABL’s objective of creating a Sociable World, the company has taken a 360 degree information approach to combating alcohol abuse and this includes training its retailers to sell responsibly; organising clinics for pregnant women to discourage drinking whilst pregnant; and intensifying its underage drinking campaigns which dissuades teenagers from drinking alcohol.

SABMiller Plc, ABL’s parent company is a signatory to the Beer, Wine and Spirit producers Commitments signed in October 2012 by 13 of the world’s leading alcohol producers to reduce, among others, harmful drinking. This is what has defined ABL’s campaign to eliminate the harmful use of alcohol.

ABL understand that its sensitisation drive against alcohol abuse will help the sustainability of its business and society at large.
