Ode Brecht Engineering and Andrade Gutierrez partners of the eastern corridor road construction and other multinational companies have introduced a number of new technologies in construction and engineering in Ghana especially in the road construction sector.
In a statement signed by communications officer of the eastern corridor road project, Otavio Schaitza he said “the eastern corridor road project has introduced new technologies to improve its work in Ghana”
In that same statement he expressed that the use of Sitech’s 3D system for graders and paving machines through the use of GPS technology was one of the new techs employed on the project. The system automatically regulates the machine’s configuration according to the specifications of the project.
“This allows the company to spread materials with accuracy, increasing productivity and quality” Otavio said.
The 695km project, which is made up of a complex mix of roads navigating the Greater Accra, Volta Region, Northern and Upper East Regions is expected to ease access to markets and also enable farmers to increase the value of agriculture produce and ultimately their income.
The route stretches from Tema through Akosombo, Juapong, Hohoe, Jasikan, Kadjeibi, Nkwanta, Kpasa and Oti Damanko to Bimbila, Yendi, Garu, Misiga and to Kulungugu in the Upper East Region.
The completion of the Eastern Corridor Route will also foster and facilitate socio-economic development and integration within the West African Sub-region.
The project partners are working on the entire lot five and six component of the entire route.
According to the communications officer, the project is to ensure knowledge transfer and employment for indigenes.
“We are ensuring knowledge transfer. More than 94 per cent of the total workforce for the project are hired locally in Ghana and are Ghanaians. We are encouraging technical knowledge transfer to Ghanaians working on the project” he said.
The government through the ministry of roads and highways, awarded the rehabilitation and improvement works of lots five and six of the corridor-a 209km route passing through the following towns; Damanko, Bimbila, Yendi, Gushegu and Gbintiri.
Barring an unforeseen circumstances and challenges, work is expected to be completed on the Eastern Corridor road by the end of 2016.
