The Ebola epidemic which hit part of Africa largely between 2014 and 2015 has negatively affected most tourist attraction sites in Ghana.

Most affected is the Cape Coast Castle in the Central Region, which is one of the leading tourist sites in Ghana and Africa.

The Ebola virus was first detected in Guinea in December 2013 and kept spreading across the continent for about two years, resulting in significant loss of lives as well as social disruption across the region.

As of January 2016, although the epidemic is no longer out of control, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet declared the epidemic over, due to reports of new cases in some parts of the continent.

A visit by Onua FM’s correspondent, Kwame Kakraba to the Cape Coast Castle revealed that revenue generation in the year 2015 fell due to the Ebola scare.

The Director at the Cape Coast Castle, Nicholas Ivor said they had over 20,000 in 2014 but the figure reduced in 2015.
