Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, the company that distributes and markets Shell branded products and services in Ghana, has held its annual Transporters’ Awards for the year 2015.
The award ceremony seeks to recognise the achievements of the transporter companies whose services Vivo Energy Ghana employs – J. K. Ahiadome Transport, J. K. Horgle Transport and S. O. Frimpong Transport Limited.
The Overall Best Transporter for 2015 went to S. O. Frimpong Transport Limited, while the Overall Best Bulk Vehicle Operator (BVO) for 2015 was awarded to Mr. John Amenyehlor of J. K. Ahiadome Transport. Several other awards were presented to high-performing BVOs and Haulier Support Staff.
Mr. Ebenezer Faulkner, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, highlighted the achievements of the transporters and congratulated them for their performance in delivering petroleum products to various Shell sites on time and in full without a single road accident.
“In 2015, our three efficient transporters made it possible to transport about 700 million litres of petroleum products with 200 trucks over a distance of 6,618,006 kilometres and a cumulative Goal Zero achievement of 2,521 days (seven years) without a single accident”, he said.
Mr. Faulkner attributed this performance to the right mind-set of the BVOs with regards to road safety and the series of training programmes Vivo Energy Ghana continues to organise for them, including 16 modules of defensive driving and comprehensive Health, Safety, Security and Environment training.
The Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission and the special guest for the occasion, Ing. Mrs. May Obiri-Yeboah, also lauded the transporters and noted the overall reduction in accidents since 2010, along with Vivo Energy Ghana’s contribution to this feat. She however cautioned the BVOs not to be complacent but continue to exercise caution behind the wheel.
“Vivo Energy Ghana’s contribution to improving road safety has been felt in numerous ways, such as through their annual Safety Day events and the mounting of lollipop stands which enable children to cross the road safely. Now, competitors have started using Vivo Energy Ghana’s transporters as well and I encourage these transporters to become mentors to others in road transport safety.”
