UT GROUP Feeds the Underprivileged on Christmas Day

The UT Group comprising all the seven UT subsidiaries on Christmas Day distributed packs of food and drinks worth over 36,000 Ghana Cedis to beggars and other underprivileged people on the streets of Accra. The occasion also saw the company donating food packs to some selected police cells.

Designated as Chairman’s Christmas Day Outreach programme, the annual event which is the initiative of the Chairman of the UT Group Mr. Joseph Nsonamoah had over 150 volunteers made up of staff, families and friends of the UT Group. This year, about 1500 packs of food and soft drinks worth about 36,000 cedis was distributed to beggars, the destitute, head potters and inmates of some police cells in Accra on Christmas day.

Addressing staff before hitting the streets, Mr. Nsonamoah commended the volunteers including children as young as two years, for coming out on such a special occasion to reach out to the under privileged. He said this is more than a Corporate Social Responsibility but a passion and desire to give meaning of the season to somebody.

“These are our own brothers and sisters who are not fortunate enough to have what we have, while some find themselves in situations that is keeping them away from their families and loved ones, so whatever we do let us show them a lot of respect and dignity”, he added.

With the support of the police, the volunteers were divided into a group of four and served packs on the following streets in Accra including routes from UT Holdings office at Adabraka through the TUC traffic light, Psychiatry hospital, Ridge roundabout, Sankara interchange 37 hospital area, Airport to the Kanda High Way.

Some volunteers also went to the National Theatre, Ministries, Independence round about National Lotteries Accra Polytechnic while others also went through the Graphic Road to Obetsebi Lamptey and Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
