Across Africa, there has been the conscious effort to move away from the brick and mortar way of banking to digital banking.
This has been through the use of customer friendly applications that allow transactions with minimum fuss.
The latest of these is Slydepay, an app that takes the cashless revolution further by providing carefully thought off solutions for both web based and mobile environments.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Delali Dzidzienyo, Manager, Personal and Business Banking Marketing at Stanbic Bank, said Stanbic invested in the application to encourage e-transaction by making payment and collections easy for customers and non-customers alike.
Since its introduction in September 2015, Slydepay has grown from a fringe novelty into a bona fide money application that simplifies transactions and payments in Ghana.
The frictionless payment feature of the app allows subscribers to pay for items without using cards, pins or passwords.
It also provides insights and visibility into one’s spending and saving habits and can be linked to customers’ Visa cards.
The app which is powered by Stanbic Bank also has a robust security system that has been tried and tested by international standards.
“The Slydepay app is not limited to Stanbic Bank account holders,” he said. “It is available for the over 29 million mobile subscribers in Ghana, regardless of their banks.”
He added that the app can be used to settle pre-paid and postpaid bills and easily transfer money from one wallet to another.
“Once you have the experience of using such an app, you will understand why Stanbic Bank has invested so much in this project,” Mr Dzidzienyo said.
In the bid to bring the convenience of mobile banking to the footsteps of more people, Stanbic Bank supported the Saminifest event last weekend, where scores of patrons signed up for the app at designated stands.
Ten new subscribers who signed on at the event received gifts in the form of airtime credit and Samini souvenirs.
By the end of 2016, Stanbic Bank expects to mobilize half of the Ghanaian population to join the digital revolution by using Slydepay as their ultimate means of paying and receiving cash and transacting everywhere they go.
As a boost for local ingenuity, the bank partnered tech-savvy Ghanaians to develop the app. Slydepay can be downloaded for free at Google Play Store and IOS Apps Store and is expected to be the next big technological innovation to come out of Africa.
