So far, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) claims it has vaccinated some 800,000 Ghanaians against the coronavirus disease.

Dr. Aboagye reportedly gave this update in Kumasi during the 2021 first senior managers’ meeting of the GHS.

According to him, all health workers, both public and private, have been vaccinated since March 2, when the nationwide vaccinations started.

However, the claim raises serious questions of credibility because the only vaccine Ghana has administered so far is the AstraZeneca vaccine it received “free-of-charge” from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Bill Gates-led GAVI vaccine manufacturers.

Only 600,000 vials of the vaccines were delivered to Ghana, so it is a mystery where the GHS got the remaining 200,000 from. In fact, even the 600,000 have not been fully deployed as the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) reports that some 20,000 vials of the vaccine are currently unfit for injection because they have expired.

Also, a few weeks ago, a number of miscreants were reported for stealing several batches of the vaccine for sale on the black market.

While making his mysterious claim, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye showered glowing accolades on Ghanaian frontline health service workers for getting the vaccines.

“As a service, we have demonstrated our resilience in delivering primary and secondary care services to the entire population of Ghana and this has attracted positive national and global attention,” he said.

Ghana aims to vaccinate 20million of her 32 million population against the deadly virus which has already claimed the lives of thousands.

The first batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine had been delivered to the country under the World Health Organization (WHOS)’s COVAX program.

Interestingly, the AstraZeneca vaccine has been associated with blood clots in Europe and the USA, with Denmark totally withdrawing it.
