Prof. Opoku Agyemang Donates To Bereaved Families Of Drowned Apam Teenagers

The 2020 Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has visited the bereaved families of the about 20 teenagers who drowned at a Landing Beach in the area, last Sunday.

In addition to consoling the family members and the community, she also on behalf of former President John Mahama, donated Ghc13,000 towards the funeral and burial rites of the bereaved.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was accompanied by members of the NDC’s Central regional Parliamentary Caucus, including; the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Hon Richard Gyan-Mensah together with other colleagues of the Central Regional MP’s Caucus such as Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Hon. James Gyakye Quayeson, Hon. Abeiku Crentsil, Hon. David Vondee and Hon. Gizella Tetteh Agbotui.

 The rest are Hon. Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Kojo Quansah, Regional Secretary, Ms Faustina Lamptey, Regional Women Organiser, Alhaji Muhammed Kassim, Constituency Chairman and his executives were all part of the entourage.

The entourage first met with the bereaved families and then later, the Fishermen Council, on Thursday.

Out of the Ghc13,000, Ghc3,000 was a donation to the Fishermen Council.

On Sunday, March 7, 2021, at about 4.30 pm, some teenagers of the District got drowned at Apam landing beach. It is feared that the total number involved is about 20. Two survived the incident and have since been discharged from the hospital.

It is estimated that the number of children involved are about 20, however, the bodies of 13 have since been retrieved while two have been treated and discharged.

The District Assembly has since announced a burial service for the bereaved on the 16th of March, 2021.

According to a statement from the Central regional branch of the NDC, “Prof. used the occasion to console the bereaved families and engaged the two survivors and their families. Also, she registered her profound gratitude and appreciation to all persons who have risen to the challenge both with rescue efforts and material support.
