The Party of National Unity (PNU) has disowned claims by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on the claims of ‘fixing’ Deputy President William Ruto at the ICC.

This comes even as Jubilee MPs insisted that Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua indeed masterminded a scheme to fix President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy.

In a paid up advert, the party on whose ticket former president Mwai Kibaki was elected for his second term in office in 2007 said it was never asked to produce witnesses to commissions that were established to look into the 2007 post-election violence which resulted from the disputed presidential election results.

“At no time was PNU or any of its officials ever requested or required to procure and or to provide witnesses by either of the commissions, or any other body or person, before, during or after the hearings,” the party stated in a press release published as an advert.

In Nairobi, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda said Ms Karua cannot escape the accusations levelled against her that she was a mastermind the alleged fixing of suspects at The Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC).

“Let us ask ourselves one question, who established the Waki commission and made appointments? It was Martha Karua as the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs,” the MP said at St Mary’s Magdalene Catholic Church where he attended Sunday mass.

Accompanied by Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, Mr Kamanda claimed that on the one hand, Ms Karua established the Waki commission with a deliberate intention of fixing Mr Kenyatta so as to deny him a chance to contest in the 2013 General Election while on the other, ODM was working hard to fix Mr Ruto.

FINISH UHURU AND RUTO

“Karua’s politics was to finish Uhuru and ODM’s to finish Ruto. But God is great; through the prayers of Kenyans countrywide their scheme has not worked and we still pray that Ruto is also cleared. This was a scheme so that they could not participate in the 2013 elections.” he said.

The MP further said the ongoing controversy on the fixing allegations will not disintegrate the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) as both URP and TNA have made a resolution to stay united regardless of the circumstances around them.

“There won’t be any infighting within JAP. Those thinking TNA and URP will disagree that is a dream; it will not happen here in Kenya,” said Mr Kamanda.

JAP’S plan, he said, was to retain the presidency until 2027.

“We have talked and we are still talking and our people have said and they believe we have already sealed our unity. Right now we are JAP and there is no TNA or URP and we will not accept to be divided by Cord or any other person,” he stated.

“We believe through our prayers, very soon this issue will be over.

“Those who are dreaming of getting the presidency should know we shall be there next term, in 2022 and even in 2027.

“If Raila will still have the strength to keep waiting well and good, because we know he is waiting for at least one day to rule this country,” he stated.

WAKI AND KRIEGLER REPORTS

And in its advert, PNU, through its officials Jeremiah Kioni (party leader), Mr John Anunda (Secretary-General) and Mr John Kamama (Chairman) sought to clarify who its officials have been over the years.

It said the party tabled a written report through its officials to the Waki and Kriegler commissions that were formed after the post-election violence.

The party argued that it even attempted to seek a local resolution to the dispute through the National Assembly.

“These efforts were defeated by a vocal ‘don’t be vague, let’s go to The Hague’ grouping of members of the 10th Parliament,” the statement said.

“As the judge said, the animals are innocent, PNU is innocent,” it stated.
