The Petroleum Commission in partnership with the United Kingdom Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) and Scottish Development International (SDI) will lead a delegation to participate in the Commission’s first Oil and Gas Trade Mission in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The Trade Mission to be led by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Deputy Minister of Energy responsible for Petroleum, would be joined by over forty Ghanaian companies and other senior government officials.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the one-week event scheduled for June 11 to 15, 2018 is aimed at positioning indigenous Ghanaian companies to take advantage of one-on-one networking opportunities provided by their Scottish counterparts seeking business opportunities in the country’s upstream petroleum industry.

It said the initiative was in pursuance of Regulation of the Petroleum Local Content and Local Participation Regulations, Legislation Instrument 2204 that seeks to ensure that indigenous companies were exposed to industry best practices of more matured jurisdictions and build strategic partnerships with international companies.

The statement said at the pre-departure meeting with representatives of Ghanaian companies, Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Mr Egbert Faibille Jnr urged participants to prepare adequately to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from more matured jurisdictions.

It noted that “These possible strategic partnerships under Regulation 4(6) of L.I. 2204 were expected to stimulate growth, commercial viability, business skills, competitiveness and technology transfer among Ghanaian businesses”.

According to the statement Mr Andy Monaghan, the SDI Regional Manager for Africa advised participants to make the most of the opportunity to network with Scottish companies.

“SDI is an investment arm of the Scottish government specialised in identifying market opportunities and facilitating business relationships for many Scottish companies. We are keen to work with you to ensure that you make the most out of this engagement,” the statement said.
