Over 2,000 children benefit from Kalyppo’s CSR project

Over 2000 Children from four deprived communities in the Greater Accra region have benefitted from Kalyppo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Kalyppo Kares.

The pilot CSR project, dubbed ‘Kalyppo Kares’, sort to bring to children in these communities, free preventive health screenings/education with the aim of ensuring and inculcating in them, preventive health attitudes right from childhood.

The project, which span a four week duration, saw children living in Madina, Kwabenya, Jamestown and Tema community 1, being given education on self-breast examination, oral hygiene, care at the menstrual stage and education on other health related issues.

Speaking to Business Day on the general assessment of the exercise, Chris Nana Ampadu, Project manager for Kalyppo Kares expressed concerns about the health and general wellbeing of children in the country since findings from the exercise showed parental apathy towards the health of their wards.

“Concerning the kids that we screened in the various communities, I think people don’t really pay attention to their children at all. Most of the problems with the kids were their oral health and then their physical wellbeing. In Tema, half of the children we screened had sores on different parts of their bodies. Jamestown for instance had children below 8 years smelling very badly. I don’t know what that means for a kid growing up but if we are going to have youths that can change the future, I think at least we should prioritize their health and wellbeing”, Chris bemoaned.

Applauding the heads of Kalyppo for funding the project and the medical team for the screening, Chris said the entire project and awareness creation had been successful and assured that the company would continue to improve the lives of its consumers.

CEO of Sangy Nursing Services, Mrs. Sara Nana Yeboah noted that the exercise had been amazing with the participant turnout exceeding what they had expected.

“It’s been amazing. Initially we thought that it was going to be just the normal 1 – 10 children coming in for the screening due to perceptions about such screenings. Even Kalyppo budgeted for 200 children per event but so far we have done over 2000 children so I think that it has been awesome”, she said.

Expressing her excitement about the project, Mrs Yeboah further noted that children from the various communities had shown interest in their health throughout the exercise and was confident that the educative health messages taught would go down well with the children.

She further called on other corporate institutions to support such health related initiatives to prevent the occurrence of some health issues in children.
Kalyppo Kares, a flagship corporate social responsibility effort by fruit drink company, Kalyppo, piloted a 4 week preventive health screening exercise for children in Jamestown, Madina, Kwabenya, and Tema Community 1.

The project which started on August 15 and ended on September 5 2015 was aimed at providing free community health screenings to children in underserved areas across Accra. The children were also treated to free Kalyppo drinks, bouncy castles, face painting, musical chairs as well as other entertainment packages with lots of prizes and giveaways.

Kalyppo is the flagship natural fruit juice brand from Aquafresh Limited. Aquafresh Limited is a manufacturer and marketer of packaged food products and non-alcoholic beverages in Ghana.

The Kalyppo brand launched in 1998 is for children of all ages, but especially for those aged 4 -16 years old. Kalyppo has no added preservatives.
