The daily minimum wage for workers has been increased by 10 per cent, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced.
The increment, announced Wednesday September 7, takes effect from January 2017. The new daily minimum wage will be GHS8.80, up from the GHS8.00 agreed in October 2015.
This came to light after a meeting of the National Tripartite Committee comprising of representatives from the Ghana Employers Association, the Trades Union Congress (TUC), other labour unions, and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
The increment comes after several months of negotiations between labour unions and government.
Government has urged all companies and employers to take note of the increase and strictly abide by it.
