Microsoft has launched a series of Windows 10 promotions in Ghana to help students, consumers and enterprises upgrade to Windows 10 more easily and enjoy the best Windows 10 devices and deals in preparation for the New Year.

Hosted at the University of Ghana, Legon, a launch event introduced attendees to Windows 10 and the Microsoft cloud, while allowing them to interact with a range of devices from Lumia smartphones to tablets and laptops.

Since its global launch in July, more than 110 million devices and 8 million business PCs already run Windows 10. It is the most secure Windows ever, kept automatically up-to-date with innovations and security updates.

“The enhanced security features are a real benefit for those using genuine software,” says Derek Appiah, Microsoft Country Manager for Ghana. “Customers get built-in, enterprise-grade security enabling them to replace passwords with more secure options, protect their data and identities, and run only the software they trust.”

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) one in every three people who use illegal software will likely encounter malware. The cost of dealing with malware and cyber-attacks across businesses in the Middle East and Africa is US$8 billion, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).

In addition to the security features, Windows 10 offers a seamless experience across the broadest range of devices. “Windows 10 is fast and familiar, providing the perfect platform for the online, offline world. Its range of local and globally well-loved applications make it relevant, and designed to put the consumer at the centre”, says Appiah.

The latest version of Office seamlessly integrates with Windows 10 across devices, enhancing collaboration. “Office 365 is the perfect education tool and was demoed at the launch. It enables students and educators to collaborate, share notes, and work simultaneously, no matter what device they are using.”

Microsoft is currently partnering with public and private education institutions on a number of student device ownership programs. These include collaboration through local partners; KQ Computers and ZEPTO. “This is a key part of Microsoft’s efforts across Africa, delivering tools and services over a secure cloud platform to enable people to upskill and innovate in order to contribute to economic development.”

Microsoft has also partnered with Tecno to make the Techno WinPad 10 available at a discounted price of GH999 for students for a limited period. The Techno WinPad 10 is a new device, integrating the best of a tablet and a laptop.

With a Bluetooth keyboard, Intel’s Atom Processor, 10.1 inch HD screen, Quad Core 1.83 Ghz, a 32GB ROM, 2GB RAM and Windows 10.1 pre-installed, the Techno WinPad 10 is said to be more mobile than a laptop, more productive than a tablet and more affordable than an Ultrabook.
