Ghana’s president John Mahama has reassured Ghanaians he is committed to ensuring that government maintains its fiscal discipline in the face of a crucial election in 2016.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interaction with Ghanaian students studying in various institutions in India, and some members of the Ghanaian community in New Delhi, Mahama stressed that he will not succumb to any election year pressures to overspend its budget.

According to him, the three-year International Monetary Fund bailout programme is helping stabilise the economy.

He also spoke about his Agenda for Transformation, and how Ghana’s relations with India will help push the Agenda.

Mahama, who is in India to participate in the India-Africa Summit Forum noted that government is already working with India to produce sugar, and also revamp the western rail line.

Later today, Wednesday, President Mahama will hold bilateral talks with the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, officials of the Indian EXIM Bank and the CEOs of a number of Indian businesses.
