Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring the success of its flagship 24-Hour Economy policy, urging civil and public services to deepen their role in driving the initiative.
Speaking at a Strategic Integration Workshop organised by the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and hosted by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Mr. Debrah stressed that civil service effectiveness will determine the policy’s success – and also the wider national reset agenda’s.
“The success or failure of any government policy rests on the civil service’s shoulders. That’s why there is a need to rally everyone behind this agenda,” he said.
Addressing the theme ‘Mobilising government machinery for whole-of-government delivery’, the workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights on the initiative and explore avenues for collaboration.
Mr. Debrah described the policy as a driver of innovation, sustainable employment and economic transformation. He said it marks a reconstruction of the traditional economic pillars and appealed for stronger stakeholder coordination to ensure delivery.
The event brought together senior figures including BoG Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama; Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh; Chairperson of the National Development Planning Commission, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson; and Head of Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh.
Dr. Asiama said the vision behind the 24-Hour Economy is “bold and practical”, designed to unlock productivity across sectors, create quality jobs and position Ghana as a globally competitive hub.
“It is about agriculture that processes through the night, factories that run multiple shifts, logistics networks that move goods seamlessly and services that are digitally-enabled and readily available,” he said.
He added that a successful transition requires not only energy and infrastructure but also robust financing systems capable of supporting SME lending, trade credits, climate-aligned investment and stronger development finance partnerships.
Job creation opportunities
Mr. Tanoh noted that the 24-Hour Economy represents more than a slogan or branding exercise, describing it as a “systemic transformation” of how Ghana produces, distributes, consumes and competes internationally.
