The Allied Health Profession Council is appealing to Government to address unemployment issues among its members.
The Council is worried that Allied Health graduates face major unemployment challenge since it takes a long period to employ them after their training program.
Registrar of the Council, Dr Samuel Yaw Opoku made the appeal during an induction and oath swearing ceremony of some one thousand three hundred Allied Health graduands at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
“A visit to our health facilities point to acute shortage of these highly trained professionals. I am therefore making a passionate appeal to the government to address this critical issue so that the population can benefit from the services of these people whose education was largely funded by the taxpayer,” he stated.
Guest speaker for the ceremony, Professor Francis Agyemang-Yeboah said Government must take a serious look at health financing in order to achieve the Universal Health Coverage.
“Financing healthcare should be seen as an investment and not cost because the benefit of investing in health can be 20 times greater than any cost incurred.”
Earlier this year, a coalition of Bonded Allied Health Graduates protested over their unemployment.
The coalition’s president, Bright Bell, said some 500 members who had completed their respective trainings were yet to be engaged.
