Govt bags GHS58m from stool lands

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, has said steps have been taken to improve the management of revenues generated from stool lands.

Taking his turn at the meet-the-press series in Accra on Wednesday, 11 September 2019, Mr Asomah-Cheremeh said in 2018, the Office of the Stool Lands mobilised a total of nearly GHS58 million.

As of June 2019, he noted that a total of about GHS50 million, representing over 40 per cent of the revenue target of GHS110 million, was mobilised and disbursed.

“A number of activities were undertaken geared toward improving stool land revenue mobilisation and disbursement to stated beneficiaries (Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, MMDAs, Stools and Traditional Authorities). These revenue sources include Mineral Royalties, Timber Royalties, Ground Rent, Farm Rent and Mining Concession Rent.

“In the year 2018, the office mobilised a total amount of nearly GHS 58 million.

“As of June 2019, a total amount of about GHS 50 million, representing over 40 per cent of the revenue target of GHS110 million, was mobilised and disbursed.

“This shows a marked improvement over that of the previous year,” Mr Asoma-Cheremeh stated.
