Security officers at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have busted a syndicate attempting to smuggle 200 Kilogram worth of Gold out of the country.

The ounces of gold had been hidden in boxes at the time of arrest.

Officials of the Accra-based AA Minerals Limited- the only private gold buying company with a license in Ghana – allegedly connived with the syndicate to illegally transport the gold out of the country.

According to Starr News’ court correspondent Wilberforce Asare, the move comes on the back of the decision by government not to renew the licenses of private gold buyers in the country.

The government decision was triggered by various acts of industry malpractices by the private dealers.
