Ghanaian exporters urged to put premium on packaging

    Ghanaian exporters have been asked to put a premium on the packaging of their products to boost attraction and ensure that these meet international standards.

    Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng, Northern Sector Manager of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) said that was important to penetrate and cut for themselves a fair share of the international market.

    He was addressing a meeting of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Shippers Committee in Sunyani.

    It was attended by about 40 members, who included exporters, importers and potential shippers.

    The meeting was used to discuss the challenges they faced in their business operation and the way forward.

    Mr. Kwarteng expressed concern about the poor packaging of products, resulting in low patronage and huge losses to some local exporters.

    The GSA, he said, was scaling up the effort to assist shippers to uphold international best practices to compete effectively on the international market.

    He urged them to regularly renew their operating licenses and accept to share new ideas and experiences to improve and expand their businesses through networking.

    Mr. Elijah Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of EKA Food Processing Company, at Abesim near Sunyani, advised his colleague food processors and exporters to pay attention to quality and best industry practices.

    They should additionally be reasonable in the pricing of their products to stay competitive.
