More than one million Ghanaian fishermen will benefit from the insurance policy instituted by the government to safeguard canoes, outboard motors, nets, and other fishing inputs.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ms Sherry Ayittey, made this known at a meeting with some fishermen and fishmongers from Ellembelle, Jomoro, and Nzema East areas of the Western Region, as part of her working visit to the region on Wednesday June 22.
“…We have started registering fishermen on an insurance policy. This insurance is quite simple.
“We will pay part of the bills if, for instance, you have an accident on the sea. Assuming you have problems with your fishing net or outboard motors, if you have been insured, we will give you some money as compensation, so, do well to register when the personnel come around,” Ms Ayittey told the fisherfolk.
