“Congratulations to the Black Stars on reaching the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in their history”.
These were the indelible remarks of FIFA president Gianni Infantino when Ghana’s Black Stars officially booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Comoros on Sunday.
The win marks a triumphant return to the world’s biggest football stage for the Black Stars, who will now prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In spite of all the misgivings that some Ghanaian fans have about coach Otto Addo’s ability, we should recognise that this feat marks his 2nd World Cup qualification for the Black Stars and he should be accorded the appropriate respect.
Coach Addo has instilled tactical discipline into this crop of Black Star players – and this was visible when they encountered a high-energy Comoros side that left many on tenterhooks.
Ghanaians have won back their love for the sport as the Accra Sports Staduim was filled to capacity, giving the players that extra edge to go for the kill.
The midfield partnership of Thomas Partey and Sibo Kwasi was rock solid and the coach must be credited for unveilling this promising combination. Captain Jordan Ayew demonstrated his experience and leadership for the Stars to put up a strong showing.
It is the hope of most Ghanaians that they will replicate this determination at the world’s biggest football festival and bring joy to the nation’s heart. Go Black stars, go!
