Following recent talks about impending drought expected to hit African countries by 2063, African leaders in the agric sector have come together to address the issue.
According to them, measures are being put in place to address issues of food security to mitigate the effects of the drought.
At a joint New Alliance Grow-Africa stake holders forum, a Senior Coordinator at the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition Dr Nalishebo Meebelo, assured that policies are been implemented to address the looming danger.
‘‘There are several initiatives that have been put in place but importantly, it is this initiative called the comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program, that is being implemented”, he explained, adding that the common policy and investment framework for Africa will seek to address issues of food security, nutrition security and poverty reduction.
“So Africa has also put in place the Malibu declaration which goes beyond the comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program and begins to look at enhancing issues of finance and investment in the agriculture sector,” he added.
He pointed out that, the policy will look at agro industrialisation as a pragmatic measure.
