Vodafone topped data subscription hikes for December 2015, according to figures released by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Vodafone increased its data subscription base by 2.43%, Airtel – 2%, MTN – 1.85% and Tigo – 1.50%. However, Glo and Expresso slumped by 6.53% and 1%, respectively.
The NCA said at the end of December 2015, there was an increase in the total number of mobile data subscribers.
Total subscribers increased from 17,728,312 as of the end of November 2015 to 18,031,188 of the end of December 2015. The total penetration rate for the month was 65.74%.
Vodafone’s data subscribers increased from November’s figure of 3,237,643 to 3,316,343 as at the end of December 2015. This indicates a percentage increase of 2.43% from November’s figure. Vodafone’s market share for the month under review was 18.39%.
Airtel’s data subscribers increased by 2% from the previous month. This is reflected in their total mobile data figure of 2,879,431 subscribers at the end of December 2015. Airtel’s market share for the month of December was 15.97%.
The total number of subscribers for MTN’s mobile data in December 2015 was 8,634,914, representing a percentage increase of 1.85% from the previous month. MTN’s market share for mobile data for the month under review was 47.89%.
Tigo’s data subscriber figures increased from 2,692,510 at the end of November to 2,732,863 as at the end of December 2015. This represents an increase of 1.50%. Their total market share for the month under review was 15.16%.
Glo’s data subscriber figures at the end of December 2015 was 419,459. This indicates a percentage decrease of 6.53% from November 2015’s subscriber figure of 448,762. Their total market share for the month was 2.33%.
Expresso’s data subscriber figures for the month of December were 48,178. This represents a percentage decrease of 1% from November’s subscriber base of 48,567. Their market share for the month under review was 0.27%.
