The Ideal Finance Group has supported the Accident Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with GHS20, 000 to cater for bills owed by the patients.
Several accident victims have been discharged by the hospital but their inability to pay for treatment has kept them at the hospital for months.
Moved by compassion, the Group, led by the Deputy CEO, Mr Charles Arkuh, presented a cheque to the hospital to cover the medical bills and other expenses on Wednesday 28th January, 2016 at the premises of the hospital.
Mr Arkuh, during the presentation, noted that he was touched when he heard that some discharged patients could not go home because they could not pay their bills.
Mr Arkuh underscored that “it is part of our culture at Ideal to support the needy in society and one of our core values is caring, so, we found the means to help the people”.
The CEO feels the situation at the hospital has moved from a social responsibility to a point where it has placed an economic burden on the hospital.
In addition to the donation, the financial institution said they were exploring options to provide more aid to the nation’s premier hospital which receives the most health referrals across the country.
“We want to also look at how best we can collaborate to support the hospital. We know how difficult it is to acquire medical facilities and keep the hospital running.”
The CEO of Korle Bu, Dr Gilbert Buckle, was grateful to Ideal Finance for the kind gesture and encouraged other corporate institutions to follow the example of the financial institution.
“This is the corporate spirit that any organisation should be looking at in terms of corporate social responsibility. Some of the cases at the accident centre require a lot of cost due to the serious nature of injuries which citizens may not be able to afford.”
He indicated that the hospital was considering the idea of establishment of a trust fund to help accident victims.
“As part of efforts, we have actually decided to establish a trust fund as a separate public entity so that we can have transparency and accountability for people to do donations so that we use it to support,” he revealed.
He says the hospital will not relent in providing the best medical care for patients who visit the hospital.
