The Bank of Ghana has officially published its latest interbank foreign exchange rates, offering an updated snapshot of how the local currency is performing against global and regional benchmarks.
Calculated directly from large foreign exchange transactions valued at ten thousand dollars or more by licensed commercial banks, these reference numbers offer a transparent measure to guide travelers, businesses, and international payments.
Unlike individual rates quoted at various commercial bank counters or local forex bureaux, the central bank’s calculated weighted median filters out erratic market volatility to reflect actual wholesale trading activity across the country.
At the start of this weekly trading window, the Ghana cedi maintains a steady position against primary global currencies. The official reference data pins the US Dollar at a mid-rate of GH¢11.5500, backed by a buying rate of GH¢11.5442 and a selling rate of GH¢11.5558. Concurrently, the British Pound Sterling enters the week trading at a mid-rate of GH¢15.5284, while the Euro hovers closely at a mid-rate of GH¢13.2118. Other notable global benchmarks include the Swiss Franc holding a stable mid-rate of GH¢14.3126 and the Canadian Dollar trading at GH¢8.2407.
For cross-border merchants operating within the West African regional market, the central bank also adjusted its primary African indicators to guide intra-regional trade. The cedi trades at a mid-rate benchmark of GH¢119.00 against the Nigerian Naira, serving as an important metric for West Africa’s largest trading corridor.
Meanwhile, the specialized cross-border benchmark for the regional CFA Franc sits at a mid-rate of GH¢49.6495. These indicators continue to provide critical transparency for businesses balancing import costs and currency considerations across the ECOWAS sub-region.
