First Atlantic Bank has donated Firefly Phototherapy equipment to the Phototherapy Unit of the LEKMA Hospital.

The Firefly is a state-of-the-art phototherapy device designed for effective treatment of neonatal jaundice.

Presenting the device on behalf of the bank, Mr. Sebastian Yalley, Head of E- Banking, reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting the health sector of the country.

He mentioned that the bank has also donated to other health and educational institutions as part of its 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Taiba Afaa, a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Phototherapy Unit of the hospital mentioned that the hospital was in dire need of a new phototherapy, hence a timely gesture by the baqnk.

“Nearly a quarter of newly born babies have Neo natal jaundice that is jaundice in the first month of a baby’s life and the Firefly which is the new phototherapy technology in the treatment of jaundice, exposes the baby in all directions to the UV lights – meaning a shorter length of treatment, hence shorter stay in the hospital for both mother and child.” She stated.

Dr. Afaa expressed the Hospital’s immense gratitude to the bank for the timely donation, and urged other corporate bodies to emulate such actions, in order to help reduce the ever growing health challenges facing the country.
