After missing the 2018 World Cup tournament, the Black Stars will be in the same group as Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea this year. Ghana’s Youth and Sports minister Mustapha Ussif has revealed that all the Black Stars stakeholders have to develop a strategy to make sure the country takes home the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Mr. Mustapha revealed the news last month during a press briefing in Accra during the Coca-Cola World Cup trophy tour. He also hopes they can plan with the key stakeholders in the sports industry to put their plans together to help the Black Stars shine in Qatar.
Ghana’s Football Association president Kurt Okraku is mainly targeting the squad to go past group H, where they’re set to go against Portugal on 24th November, South Korea on 28th November and Uruguay on 2nd December. Okraku further added that the team and the football association executive council are determined to change history but need the support of the country’s residents.
According to Mr. Okraku, the Black Stars will be very competitive, and their main aim will be to rise above the group, and the rest will be open to everyone. The GFA president believes his players will show the world they’re a football powerhouse, with fans rallying behind them.
On his part, the FIFA ambassador and legend on the World Cup trophy tour, David Trezeguet, was delighted to be in Ghana and is looking forward to seeing the Black Star’s performance. Trezeguet also described the feeling of taking the 1998 World Cup trophy in France as a dream come true for him.
According to Coca-Cola’s executive Rodrigue Bila, the company was excited to have partnered with FIFA to take the World Cup trophy across the world. Bila also revealed that Ghana was the first African country to welcome the trophy during the 2022 trophy world tour. The executive was hopeful that Ghana’s fans would take the chance to make lasting memories with the iconic gold trophy.
