Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Mr. Gideon Boye Quarcoo has advised exporters of vegetable to comply with the required exports standards in order to avert a general ban on their products.

He said non-compliance to internationally accepted standards has tainted the reputation of Ghana’s exporting rating at the global level.

The development has resulted in negative effect on the economy as it sees a significant drop of export sales and reduction in export trade.

Mr. Quarcoo was worried buyers of such vegetables may look for alternative markets.
The cost of the ban on the vegetables cannot be counted as it involves millions of dollars.

The affected vegetables include; Capsicum, Solanum species example; Aubergines, Momordica, Luffa and Lagenaria (gourd family).
