California native, Addison Hellum knows about the music industry, having managed mid-sized electronic artists. Growing up in Los Angeles, he also helped develop the games network, Hypixel, which eventually go on to become the largest Minecraft server in the world. After being taken out of school during his final year of high school, he went on to work with a team of professors to construct prototype surveillance drones for the United States Navy.
In 2018, Hellum started at Brigham Young University of Hawaii. He is also an early contributor of RiceUp, an organization with over 30 schools in the Philippines, teaching about financial responsibility and technology to help farmers better support themselves.
Hellum has always had a talent for technical stuff, but he hated the idea of doing something boring with those skills. He thinks that the music industry is an industry that is surprisingly technology-heavy and can involve something fun and that he is passionate about. He credits his inspiration to his parents, both of whom have entertainment backgrounds—his father does sound design, and his mother works at Disney Music.
In 2019, Hellum signed a contract with Sony Music to break new artists. The very same year, he founded his music company. He always wanted to support independent singers and bands achieve success by helping them professionally. Enter Starling, a company that helps emerging artists become the next big musical acts. The company, which deals with digital music distribution, artist management, and promotion, has a mission is to enable independent artists to use the same breakout tools of major labels. The Founder of Starling believes that everyone deserves a fair start and thinks that helping indie artists is very important. He thinks that every talent deserves to be discovered, needs special attention, and must be treated professionally. He admits that hard work and the right approach bring good results that can lead to something big. And every goal is achievable if you know how to follow your dreams and generate good results.
Today, Hellum has a big portfolio of successful artists that have joined his company. He still believes that innovation and technology are the most important features of the music industry`s bright future.
