Ghana’s premier bank, Standard Chartered Bank, continues to promote sustainable economic and social economic development in the communities in which it operates.

Staff from the bank through the Employee Volunteering support programmes in health, education and environment participate in such efforts.

To celebrate World Environment Day, volunteers accompanied 120 selected students from Accra Royal and Osu Manhean Basic Schools in Accra to Ghana Trashy Bags, a social enterprise based in Accra, that makes recycled eco-friendly bags and gifts from plastic trash.

In line with this year’s theme of BeatPlasticPolution, the Bank sought to teach children about recycling plastic practically by taking them on the tour.

Standard Chartered Ghana has received commendation from environmental non-governmental organisation – Friends of Ramsar Site for their efforts in the preservation of the Sakumo Ramsar site in Tema.

The Bank’s massive tree-planting project has helped to protect the site and to secure parts of Accra from flooding which have caused havoc over the years.

The Bank has hit and crossed the 2000 tree milestone gaining, attention and recognition from managers of the Ramsar Site.

Standard Chartered Bank believes that reducing our own impact on the environment will protect our planet for the benefit of our communities.
