UT and Capital bank retained

The GCB Bank has revealed that it has will maintain 22 branches of UT and Capital Bank as part f the move to integrated the Banks into the GCB banking system.

The 22 branches are a part of the 53 branches assumed by GCB Bank in August 2017.

A statement sighted by the Press indicated that the decision to maintain the 22 branches was a decision ‘based on their location and accessibility to customers.’

However, it has not been ststed how nany of the branches belonged to either UT or Capital Bank.

As it stands now, the total branches of GCB Bank has increased to 183.

The Central Bank of Ghana in August 2017 ordered the Bank to take over the management of the UT and Capital Bank in a purchase and assumption agreement.

The Bank of Ghana ordered the move upon realising that UT and Capital Bank were facing serious liquidity challenges which was affecting the continuous existence and financial industry altogether.

However, 70% of the permanent workers in the two banks were retained.

“As a result of the integration, staff numbers have been rationalized and GCB has absorbed almost 70 percent of the permanent staff of those banks,” GCB Bank said in a statement.

The contract staff of the two banks have been dispensed.
