As part of celebrating hard-work among workers, Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) has rewarded 68 of its frontline staff for their commitment and dedication to service.

This was done at the company’s 2016 Dealers & Trade Area Awards ceremony held in Accra about a week ago.

The event is the third in its kind since GOIL was rebranded and positioned for accelerated expansion and growth.

There were 14 categories in the award and winners included 34 dealers, six supervisors and 21 station attendants. They received prizes such as a laptops, cash, and photographic plaques.

Meanwhile, 21 of the winners are being sponsored on a one-week tour with spending money to South Africa.

George Boadu (Asonaba) – Odoum, Kumasi, was adjudged the overall National Best Dealer while Aretha Bakers-Woode (Burma Camp service station) won the 2nd National Best Dealer and Best in LPG delivery. The 3rd National Best Dealer prize went to Emmanuel Akrofi (PWD), Wa.

For their reward, they received a South Africa tour with spending cash, a Plaque, a Certificate, Laptop and a citation.

In a speech, Mr. Patrick A.K. Akorli, the Managing Director & Group CEO of GOIL, said, “Through the efforts of these men and women and all other hard-working staff, GOIL has retained its position as the CIMG Petroleum Company of the year…”

Away from the award, Mr Akorli said government must quickly pass the local content law to strengthen local businesses in the country.

“We at GOIL believe that Ghanaian companies must play the lead role and control the downstream industry. Indeed, we have enough capabilities, experience and technical know-how to retail petroleum products in this country. Let me use this opportunity, therefore, to appeal to Government to quickly pass the local content law to strengthen local businesses,” the CEO noted.

Meanwhile, Deputy Energy Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who was the special guest of honour, revealed that Ghana loses over GHS700 million annually due to smuggling and illegal trade in the oil industry.

He, therefore, called on key stakeholders in the sector to assist government in tackling the illegal trade and smuggling facing the industry.
