…Tameklo Call to Security Agencies

Petrol pumps are set to pump non-stop as the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) gears up for round-the-clock service. Chief Executive Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo is rallying support from security forces to safeguard consumers and staff at fuel outlets nationwide.
At an exclusive gathering with the Eastern Regional Minister and security chiefs in Koforidua, Mr. Tameklo stressed the need for tight regulations to shield the oil sector from criminal activities.

He flagged concerns over unlawful practices such as fuel smuggling and scams, emphasizing the sector’s vulnerability due to its high-value products.
“We’re joining forces with the National Intelligence Bureau, the Police, Customs, and Fire service to crack down on fuel crimes,” Mr. Tameklo announced. Plans are also afoot to train security agents in combating petroleum-related offenses.
Ensuring the success of the 24-hour economy hinges on securing both customers and workers in this hazardous industry, Mr. Tameklo reiterated. The recent armed robbery incident at a fuel station highlights the urgency of bolstered security.
Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey threw her weight behind the NPA’s safety efforts, pledging full support from the Regional Coordinating Council.

She proposed tighter integration of security councils into NPA’s operations as a strategic move for reinforcing safety and collaboration.
The ongoing commitment of the NPA to consumer safety and regulatory vigilance was lauded during the meeting. Participants echoed the need for a united front among stakeholders to fortify safety and compliance measures in the petroleum realm.
