Government has begun moves to build an ultra-modern international passenger airport in the Western Region.

The move is in line with government’s quest to open up the country to investors and tourists.

To this end, government has acquired some 8,000 acres of land at Princess Town in the Ahanta West district.

Speaking to Class Business after touring the acquired land, Aviation Minister Cecilia Dapaah said: “The purpose for viewing this land is to see whether we can use it for an airport. This is not an airstrip but an airport, a passenger-inclined airport.

“And if I say passengers, I mean tourists, business people, and we the royal people of Ghana to make sure we open up this country in line with the vision of President Akufo-Addo to open Ghana up to investors and for tourists.

“We are now going to the drawing board because it is one thing sitting in Accra talking [and another] investing in a place or opening up the Western Region by doing a passenger airport to complement what the Air Force Base is doing.”
