Vodafone Ghana’s Legal and External Affairs Director, Preba Greenstreet, has called for the economic empowerment of women and highlighted their crucial role in driving economic growth not only in Ghana but also across Africa. Greenstreet made these remarks during a plenary speech at the 2023 Inspire Me Conference.

The Inspire Me Conference, organized annually by Absa Bank, aims to empower female business owners, enhance their leadership skills, and foster the development of successful and sustainable businesses for the future.

During her speech, Greenstreet emphasized that women in Ghana and across Africa are not merely participating in business but are also leading, innovating, and driving economic growth. She further reiterated Vodafone Ghana’s commitment to gender equity in the workplace and its active role in promoting education and financial inclusion for women.

Greenstreet highlighted the company’s efforts to prioritize candidates’ skills and capabilities over gender to ensure equal pay and job opportunities. As a partner for the conference, Vodafone Ghana provided financial and digital support to the organizers and offered 10 free website development opportunities for participants to enhance their digital visibility and foster business growth.

Over the years, Vodafone Ghana has demonstrated its dedication to women’s empowerment. In 2019, the company partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to train female farmers in using mobile phone applications like Vodafone Cash, enabling them to save, transact, and access essential banking services. This initiative has connected millions of women to vital financial services.

In conclusion, Greenstreet emphasized the importance of equity and the full involvement of all Ghanaians in the nation’s development. She stated, “Women have just as much right to success as men. This is ‘EQUITY.’ A position advocating for the comprehensive participation of all Ghanaians in our nation’s development should not be controversial or undermined.”
