Ghana would have lost $77 million in revenue from 2014 till date if the activities of SIM BOX fraudsters were not curtailed by a special task force set up to combat the menace.
The task force, which is a collaborative effort between the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police and Subah Infosolutions Ghana Limited has intensified activities to arrest the masterminds behind the practice.
The Director General of the CID Prosper K Agblorh revealed to the media that the task force has since the beginning of the year arrested 30 people involved in the practice and will do all within its power to ensure that the state does not continue to lose revenue as a result of SIM BOX fraud.
“By our reckoning, the state would have lost $77,379,000 million if these SIMBOX fraudsters had not been stopped in their tracks,” Agblorh said.
He further stated that “the Task Force has intensified the crackdown on SIM BOX Fraud since the beginning of the year after successful interceptions in 2015 and before that 2014 which resulted in saving several millions of dollars in revenue to the country.”
According to him, the fraudsters are using sophisticated equipment to evade detection and with the support from Subah Infosolutions Ghana, they have deployed more superior detection systems to flush out the criminals.
