The newly appointed country director for Siemens, a German-based energy producing company, Mr. Zak Rahman, has hinted that the company will create around 400 to 500 direct and indirect jobs in Ghana.
Creating such job opportunities for the people he added, will help lessen the increasing unemployment syndrome in Ghana thereby helping to improve on the socio-economic lives of the people.
Mr. Rahman who also doubles as the Ghana representative for Kovosta Fluid and P.B.C Industries, both Czech Republic based companies, pointed out that plans are far advance to set up the company’s office in Accra and in the Western Region to kick start its operations.
Speaking exclusively to this reporter in Accra, Mr Rahman said his outfits will partner the government to solve incessant energy crisis bedeviling the country by producing around 100-200 MW of power to the government and between 5-16 MW of power to private companies in the country.
So far he indicated that they have approached three different private companies who have all shown interest to work with Siemens and its partners to achieve its objectives. He was however tight-lipped on the three private companies they are in negotiations with.
On what benefit Ghana would derive from the establishment of a Siemens office in the country, Mr. Rahman noted that Ghana stands to benefit enormously looking at the employment both direct and indirect it will create for the people with attractive salaries for both degree and even non certificate holders.
Mr. Rahman who is also the Chief Executive Officer for A.R.Z Holdings, a recruitment, internship placement, and construction company says he been a Ghanaian and in the recruitment sector, understands perfectly the dynamics of certificate and non certificate holders in job hunting and that they will put all into consideration when employing the people.
On his plans for the company in Ghana, the country director who is also the President of the Private Employers Guild Ghana, an association of recruitment agencies, disclosed that been cognizant of the challenges government faces in energy generation, they are looking at how best to lobby the government to offer the company the chance to venture into the One District One Factory (1D1F) flagship program to enable them to build bio plants in about hundred districts with independent power.
He revealed that he hopes to expand Siemens’s activities beyond the shores of Ghana to cover the whole of the West African sub-region within the next five years.
My main focus is for Siemens to be the best energy producing company in West Africa within the next five years , with me at the helm of affairs ” he said.
Mr. Zak Rahman said amongst his main focus also is to push the Zongo agenda forward. I want to help my fellow Zongo indigenes to succeed in life and contribute their quota to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
As a Zongo person, I always have the community at heart and will make sure I use my new position to benefit my people hugely.
He applauded the government for the setting up of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner-cities Development which according to him if well executed will help solve a lot of the problems bedeviling the Zongo communities.
He mentioned that education among other things has been the main challenge facing the Zongo communities. He called on the leadership of the country to create an enabling environment and opportunities such as scholarships for the youth of the Zongos to succeed.
” I don’t know if I am still a politician or not based on my new role, as my main focus now is to see to the vibrancy and advancement of Siemens as a top energy producing brand not only in Ghana but Africa at large”.
Mr. Rahman noted that the government has laid a smooth and strong foundation and that the future looks very bright for the country.
He therefore entreated Ghanaians especially the youth to have hope in the leadership of the country regardless of the party in power.
Mr. Zak Rahman holds a Master’s Degree from the Central University.
Both Kovosta Fluid and P.B.C Industries are based in the Czech Republic while Siemens is based in Germany.
