Pharmaceutical giant, Sanofi Ghana-Nigeria has introduced it latest hypertension drug to hospitals and pharmacy shops in Ghana.
Ibersartan/amlodipine is a fixed-dose combination therapy with proven cardiovascular and renal protection benefits manufactured under the highest international standards.
With the introduction of the medicine, Sanofi has reinforce its sustained commitment to healthcare through the provision of affordable medicines that are tailored to the needs of patients.
By the addition, Sanofi now offers a wide range of treatment options for patients with hypertension; while the company targets expansion to healthcare ambitions with the opening of diabetes and hypertension clinics in partnership with other health institutions.
Speaking to the Business Day in an interview after the launch in Accra, the Director of Medical and Regulatory Affairs, Sanofi Ghana-Nigeria, Dr. Fifen Inoussa stated that the medicine has been outdoored to specialists and physicians in the country.
He stated that the drug has passed all certified test required by the Ghana Pharmaceutical Society.
“We are aware of the high standards and we have adequately met all requirements, our commitment is to help educate and make the dangers of hypertension a public knowledge”, he said.
On his part, the General Manager of Sanofi Ghana-Nigeria Abderrahmane Chakibi in a press release reiterated that the unique combination of the drug is the result of years of development, clinical studies and safety proofing.
“By introducing a new antihypertensive treatment, Sanofi demonstrates its commitment to patients through improving access to high quality solutions in the field of hypertension management in Ghana”, he said.
He maintained that the introduction of the drug is another example of Sanofi’s engagement to providing advanced and innovative treatments in response to patients’ specific needs with the highest efficacy and comfort.
In Ghana, it is estimated that about 28.3 percent of the urban population in all adult aged 18 to 65 years may have hypertension.
People with uncontrolled hypertension are exposed to many complications including stroke, heart attack, kidney failure and problems with vision , which can be controlled by adopting healthy diets, lifestyle changes and, in many cases , treatment with medications.
