Ghana’s minimum wage is one of the lowest in West Africa.
The country’s national daily minimum wage currently stands at GHS11.82 translating into a little above $2 dollars.
This minimum wage is normally reviewed annually.
The current wage was last adjusted in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It went up by 11 percentage points from the 2019 minimum wage of GHS10.65 pesewas.
Despite moves by authorities to ensure that the minimum wage is reasonable enough for Ghanaians, it appears the country’s economic challenges and realities make it difficult.
Many Ghanaian workers who fall within the threshold or below the wage normally lament instances where their lives are saddled with debts in their attempt to make a decent living from their meager earnings.
The National Tripartite Committee, two weeks ago, set up a technical committee to look into modalities to determine the 2021 National Minimum Wage.
But ahead of this revision, Citi Business News’ Ellen Dapaah found out how some Ghanaians in the private sector make ends meet.
