The Chief Executive Officer of Reroy Cables Limited, Kate Quartey-Papafio has urged government to initiate steps to end the huge importation of fake electrical cables into the country.
According to her, there are many inferior cables imported into the country, having a negative impact on the local manufacturing industry.
Madam Quartey-Papafio urged government to develop stringent measures aimed at discouraging the importation of such products.
“We must rather focus on how we can improve the industry in Ghana to export our products. That is the only way we can grow this industry. We cannot always depend on imports of cheap products,” she said.
She pointed out that the cheap cables which mainly come from China and Nigeria have made it difficult for companies in Ghana to break-even.
This, she said has resulted in uncertainties among workers in the industry whose fate hang in the balance due to constant reduction in production.
