Some alcoholic producing companies in the country have told Citi Business News they will meet the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to discuss a recent ban on advertising alcoholic products before 8 pm.

The FDA on the January 1, 2018, placed a ban on both advertisements and Live Presenter Mention (LPM) of alcoholic beverages in the media before 8pm.

The directive, according to the Authority, is to protect children and prevent an abuse of alcohol.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of Accra Brewery Limited, Adwoa Arthur said the company is currently adhering to the new directive given by the FDA it has plans to meet with the FDA soon to discuss the impact of the ban.

“The FDA has a ban on the advertisement of alcoholic beverages around certain times, the business and industry is adhering to the time frame in which we have to speak about alcohol, or even publish anything relating to alcohol consumption, the plan is to engage the FDA very soon to discuss the inhibitions that are imposed regarding the new ban, so that is what we have in mind”, she said.

She spoke to Citi Business News after taking a team of journalists on tour of the Accra Brewery Limited.

She added that the company will continue to engage its stakeholders on the way forward of the company.

“It is imperative that that we engage you on our new developments within our company, one of these new developments is the completion of a new packaging line which will be inaugurated in the second quarter of 2018”.

Ms Arthur also said “ABL, as a subsidiary of AB-InBev, the world’s leading brewer. It is now more focused and determined to realize our dream of bringing people together for a better world, as well as satisfying our consumers.”
