Ghana’s Division One League (DOL) Board chairman, Owoahene Acheampong has said that the league has no challenges with regards to sponsorship.
The DOL is sponsored by GN Bank and Mr Acheampong has stated the financial institution, after a stakeholders’ meeting, was satisfied with the league.
“We don’t have a problem with our sponsors, as at now and we don’t intend to have problems with them. The sponsors were happy at the stakeholders’ meeting,” he told Class Sports’ Hussein Hassan.
The top-flight league, on the other hand, was dealt a heavy blow when First Capital Plus Bank, now Capital Bank, suspended its contract indefinitely with the Ghana Premier League ahead of the 2015-16 season.
The bank signed a five-year deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in January 2014, worth $10 million – with $2 million being paid annually – but it opted to halt all actions related to the league after the company reached a decision to undergo restructuring.
The league, as announced by the GFA, will start on February 20 but there is no sponsor.
Mr Acheampong, however, said there is no problem with the second tier league and are in the process of writing to the Professional League Board to notify them when the Division One League will kick off and its attended issues.
