Ghana is expected to receive and install a consolidated four hundred megawatts of power barge in the next two months.

In an attempt to stabilize power crisis last year, government installed a 225 mega watts power barge constructed by the Turkish firm Karpower.

Although there is stability in power currently, government plans to prop up power generated from the facility with a bigger one.

The Power Purchase Agreement was signed between the state power distributor, ECG and Karpowership Ghana Company Ltd for the supply of two barges.

Per the PPA, the two barges were to generate a total of 450 megawatts each to directly feed into Ghana’s electrical grid for 10 years.

The first barge docked in Ghana last September and the second expected in September this year but a new arrangement has scheduled the new barge to single handedly produced the needed 450 mega watts of power signed on that agreement.

The current barge will therefore be sent back to Turkey upon the arrival of the new consolidated power barge.

Also expansion works at Tema is likely to commence in the coming days to reflect the size of the new barge coming on stream.
